Ruhela Khan Chowdhury was born in an illustrious Muslim family of ‘Deputy Bari’, Chunati, Chittagong. She is the eldest daughter of her government officer father Nazabatullah Khan (MA) and mother Shahana Murshed. Ruhela began her education at Saint Mary’s, thereafter completing her SSC from Dr. Khastagir Govt. Girls School, HSC from the Chittagong College and Masters in Marketing from the University of Chittagong.
She is married to Md. Ziauddin Chowdhury MBA (USA). Both of her in-laws, Dr. Anjuman Ara Begum and Dr. Zamiruddin Chowdhury were eminent doctors.
Ruhela has held positions of Managing Director of UMA Fabrics, Director of UMA Manufacturers and Proprietor of Fashion Valley. She was also SVP of BEMEA and an alumni of CU Management Department.
She joined Rotary in 2001. During her years there, she served as President, Secretary, Assistant Governor, Deputy Governor and various District Committee Chair. She was awarded with the coveted Gold Medal in recognition of her contributions as President.
Ruhela and Zia are blessed with two daughters and one son. Their daughter Uzma (LLM from CU, Mahidol and UK) is serving the nation as a Senior Judicial Magistrate, Anika ( BA from USA) is working as the Head of Academic Registry at the Asian University for Women and son Abdel (CPA from USA) now residing in Toronto, Canada with his wife Sabeen ( MBA from Malaysia).
Ruhela enjoys travelling; dreaming and writing. Ruhela and her husband Ziauddin both are Paul Harris Fellows currently residing in Chittagong.
She is married to Md. Ziauddin Chowdhury MBA (USA). Both of her in-laws, Dr. Anjuman Ara Begum and Dr. Zamiruddin Chowdhury were eminent doctors.
